Road Race Victory: Tactical Excellence Meets Sprint Power
The road race featured a challenging selective climb that riders tackled four times throughout the race. "There were attacks through the climb each lap, which whittled the group down to 5 people," Alyssa explained. Her strategic positioning and race awareness kept her in contention as the field was gradually reduced.
Going into the finish, Alyssa felt confident in her sprint capabilities. With perfect teamwork from teammate Lily Edwards, who provided a crucial leadout for the final 5 kilometers, Alyssa positioned herself perfectly for the sprint. "I came around the final corner second wheel and was able to sprint for the win!" she recalled.
Criterium Triumph: Racing Smart Under Pressure
Three days prior to the road race, Alyssa faced a different challenge in the criterium. The DC Devo team was aggressive from the start, "attacking and countering off the gun." Alyssa's race intelligence shone through as she gained separation just two laps into the race.
Working tactically with another rider who bridged up to her, Alyssa rode strategically throughout the entire race before making her decisive move. "I came around her in the last 100m and sprinted for the win!" – a testament to her tactical patience and explosive finishing speed.
